Solmates - Ladies Sunfish Sailing

The Solmate’s mission is to promote the joy of sailing through education, hosting regatta’s, racing, and encouraging ladies to enjoy all things nautical. Solmate's pride themselves as the sailing group that likes to be where the action is. Under the direction of Captain Kathy Forde we've done everything from cleaning our sunfish, doing repairs, sailing, having coaching sessions and enjoying social activities. Paula Shur, our racing enthusiast, has competed in national venues as well as the FWSA Rainbow Regatta. We hosted our yearly interclub "For the Love of Sailing," participated in race committees and love just plain old having fun enjoying one another's company. Our social venues includes an end of the year spectacular day at The Morris's with food to die for accompanied with a fun sail and swim to the hot springs near their house which will be coming up soon. ( non swimmers get to lounge on the overstuffed couches on their open porch watching the action!) This year we were involved in many activities besides sailing. Kathy Forde is Chairperson of the Florida Woman's Sailing Association's Education program for the second year in a row, Judy Widger is Chairman of the FWSA Young Sailor Award with Ann Railey on the committee, Ann and Judy received the Tom And Sarah Cooper Memorial Award for their contributions to the OliviaLives.com program at CYC, Paula Shur heads up the FWSA website with her son Michael, and Theresa Kresge organized The Dingy Poker Run. Paula is our "love of racing gal" and continues to make us proud of all her sailing wins! On to our next program..... the Solmate membership decided it would be advantageous to bring our fleet back to CYC for all members ( yes, that includes CYC fella's) to enjoy an exciting new venue. Our goal is twofold, we are hoping to increase our membership while sailing with club members. We plan on having weekend sails, some fun events like a sailing treasure hunt, seeing who can collect the most streamers from marks for a free drink at the Tiki Bar, and Wednesday night fun races if there's an interest.
