| May 3rd we celebrated the 129th Running of the Kentucky Derby. CYC hosted
the Greater Belleair Young Women's Society as co-participants at this
fun event. We had Stick-Horse races, with track officials including Adrian
LaPlante as Official Starter, Lars Warn - Photo Finish Judge, Barrie Gustard
- Stable Boy and Rear-Commodore Ben Givens as 2nd Stable Boy. Our Track
Announcer, Tom Brewer, resplendent in Top Hat and Morning Coat, kept the
races moving right along. Mary LaPlante was the winning jockey on Old
Grey Mary. The pictures below are a taste of the fun. The taste of the food, provided by Chef Bill and his staff, was as usual terrific. We got to feast on all the Kentucky Derby specialties like Burgoo and Kentucky Hot Browns. And who didn't love the decadent Thoroughbred Pie. The Parade of Kentucky Derby Hats was fabulous as you can see from the pictures. The winning hat was Sharon Fleschute of GBYWS and the runner up was Jo Warn. But the best, was our very own real live horses. Yes, for a little while we were the Clearwater Turf Club. Your Entertainment Committee hopes everyone had a great time and for those who didn't make it -- don't miss our next party - 2nd Annual Parrot Head Party - June 14th. |
