Cruising
Our Entertainment Committee lays claim to the title "Party Committee".
Well, the Cruisers know that we are the "Fun Committee " - and we PARTY too!
From January to November there are cruises to many destinations up and down
the Sun Coast from Treasure Island to Key West. One the many advantages
we enjoy as members of the Clearwater Yacht Club is having reciprocals
with all the other member clubs of the FCYC. So we cruise to many clubs
and enjoy all the privileges available to their members. Favorite destinations
include the clubs at Venice, Bradenton, Tampa, and Sarasota
But we also cruise to marinas too, those that have outstanding facilities--Longboat
Key and Bahia Beach are very popular PARTY spots. In fact in many months
we have not one but two destinations as spaces for boats sometimes limits
all those who want to take part.
Normally we start Friday nights off with a "pot luck" dock
PARTY when each member brings a dish. Saturdays are spent checking out
the local neighborhood, shopping, golfing, or just plain hanging out
on the dock. Saturday nights are highlighted with dinner at a suitable
nearby restaurant. Sunday morning is spent at breakfast talking over
the past 48 hours festivities - then planning to attend the next cruise!

One of the major Club Events we organize is the Annual Blessing of
the Fleet in May. This event is important in the long nautical tradition
of yacht clubs. We have a Scottish bagpiper for the music and a pastor
to bless the fleet. Then power and sail boats cruise round the inlet
in front the Club to salute the Commodore. After that, it's back to
the Club for the afternoon PARTY.
Other calendar highlights include the cruise to South Seas Plantation
on Captiva Island. As many as 20 of our boats can be seen tied up there.
In addition there are other members who will drive there by car in order
to be able to enjoy this resort and take part in the PARTY fun.
The highlight cruise of the year is the trip to Key West in June to accompany
the sailors who take part in the Clearwater/Naples/Key West Regatta.
The race starts from our Club with sailors from all over the State.
We watch them start under the gun, and return to having FUN. Cruisers
will leave much later and plan to arrive in Key West in time to watch
the finish. Then the REAL FUN begins. Key West as everyone knows is
a prime vacation destination so sailors and power boaters gather together
to PARTY.
Everyone is invited to join the Cruising Committee. You don't even
have to have a boat! You can attend any of the trips by driving there.
If space is limited for some destinations, we have a draw. So come and
join us. We guarantee you will have fun, make new friends, and relax
away from the usual spots. Oh, and did we mention we PARTY.
