Entertainment
Not for nothing is the Entertainment Committee known as "The Party
Committee".
Chaired in rotation by the current Rear Commodore, we are mandated
"to provide entertainment for members and guests of the Club".
Do we take our job seriously or what!
In almost every month we plan and carry out terrific parties both inside
and out. We start off in January with our Annual Chili Cook-Off, at
which prizes are awarded for different kinds of chili. We follow that
with the Valentine's Day party, St Patrick's Day celebrations, the Parrot
Head Party and so on. For a change of pace we also have "Rockin'
Dock Parties" (always outside) that though less formal are still
big hits with everyone. You can see the events we hold by visiting the
Club's Web Site and clicking the CYC Events Calendar link on the Home
page. Select any month at the top to see the events month by month.
As a member of Clearwater Yacht Club you will want to attend these
parties – to meet new friends, to entertain your old friends and
to generally have a terrific good time.
Members are kept informed of forthcoming events on a regular basis
several different ways:
• Notices are placed in the pages of the monthly club magazine
"The Compass" that is mailed to all members.
• We have several bulletin boards in the Club that carry colorful
notices.
• The Web site has full color posters on the Calendar page of
the various forthcoming events and
• Finally, we email all members regularly to ensure that they
are kept informed so that they can make the necessary bookings.
It is no wonder that the attendance is huge for many of the parties.
These events are all organized by Committee members so new club members are
encouraged to get involved. It is a great way to make new friends by
joining this committee.
We have the more formal events each year such as the Commodore's Ball
in April, the Annual Change of Watch Ceremony and Dinner Dance, and
of course our New Year's Eve Party. The New Years party is held in two
sections, both upstairs and in the Dry Dock because of the demand for
tickets.
You can see photos of previous fun events by going onto the Club web
site www.clwyc.org , clicking the Entertainment & Hospitality link,
then selecting any one of the highlighted words on that page. Here you
will see photos of club members having fun (and sometimes looking funny).
You can also read The Compass, the Club’s monthly newsletter,
in color on the Web site just by clicking on the CYC Compass link on
the Home page.
ALL new members are wanted and welcomed as Committee members. Being a committee
member is not a lot of work (we meet only once per month) but it is
a lot of fun. Don't wait for an invitation. This is your invitation!
As an Entertainment Committee member, we can guarantee you will have a great time.
Click on the "Why I should join CYC" link on the left for
information on our various classes of membership and how to join.
