The Bowchasers
The BowChasers were founded in 1987 and are the women's sailing group of the
Clearwater Yacht Club. We sail club provided Optimist Prams, in the Basin
at the Clearwater Yacht Club on Tuesday Mornings. We begin rigging the
prams at 9:30 am and are on the water by 10:00 am. Following sailing,
we all meet in the Grille Room for lunch. All women members of the yacht club are
invited to join us, either to sail or even just for lunch.
We have an excellent sailing program for experienced and novice sailors.
NOBODY YELLS. We have a graduated program, to be sure that you are secure
in your training before you are promoted to the next step. Our Education
Instructor is always aware of our sailors’ needs. For the most
part, we are really fair weather sailors, we don't usually go out on
the water when the weather is inclement - too cold, rainy, or even (imagine
this for a sailing group) too WINDY. On those days we have our instructor
go over technique and rules landside. Bottom line is we are really just
a group of women who enjoy the camaraderie of being together and on
nice days like to be out on the water.
We provide excellent training for Race Committee duties, both for Bowchaser
events and for other Yacht Club organized regattas. Many Bowchaser's
are also very active members of the Yacht Club Race Committee. We are
members of the Florida Women's Sailing Association where we get to meet
some great gals from other Yacht Clubs in the area.
We encourage all women, no matter your age or experience, to come and
talk with us. Perhaps your expertise is not in sailing, but you may
enjoy race management and the organization of sailing events. We have
a place for you.
In addition to our active sailing program, we have an excellent social
program. "YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SAIL TO BE A BOWCHASER"! We are
known around the club as the "Gals with the itty bitty boats and
the great big parties".
We always have a number of social events scheduled during the year. Many
of our members have busy day schedules and they find our evening social
events very convenient and relaxing. Our couples Xmas Party is usually
the "Event of the Season". That party and two others, our
Wine & Dessert Kick-off Party and our annual Soup Cruise are usually
hosted by members in their homes. These home parties are BYOB and pot
luck events. In addition to those parties, we have 2 or 3 more events
each season. It's a great way to get to know members of CYC. It doesn't
matter if you are an experienced sailor, a novice, or a partygoer.
We are a fun loving group of gals and would love to have you join
us, either as part of our sailing program or as one of our many social
members.
